Conrad Ventur on Useless Magazine

How did you start the magazine?

Conrad: I started USELESS with the help of some journalist friends of mine, some photographers and some great editorial ideas from Larry Tee. I took a stack of letters, articles, fun words, strange ideas and slapped them all into the ultimate trend sheet - inspired by early Interview Magazine.

What topics do you cover?
In USELESS we write about people and trends in music and art. We capture the zeitguist of the underground 3 years before it hits the mainstream (well... at least with some of it - the rest is plainly cheap and fun)

What made you publish a magazine?
I wanted to put out a magazine because I wasn\'t seeing the kind of reporting that I wanted. I\'d go to the book store and just wouldn\'t see anything about the people I wanted to read about. There was a need for something like USELESS, so thats why I did it.

Who writes for USELESS?
Our writers change from issue to issue. We always use people who are close to their material, whether they live in Los Angeles, London, New York or elsewhere.

Who is it written for
USELESS is for everyone.

How important is counter culture to you?
Change happens whether you want it to or not.

Are you involved in any other projects?
I have a book coming out this Fall. Photos from the underground. Its called ElectroDiskoPunks! (Karl Lagerfeld\'s Edition 7L).
