Conceited Presents...Spacerocket, Temposhark and Dustin's Bar Mitzvah
Diary of our first gig and club night
So in the end the day came, the day that gave us the answer to the question raised when looking with both admiration and a hint of jealousy at the people working for gigs and festivals – ‘How do you organise a gig and club night?’
It took us four long months of learning and of overcoming indifference but in the end the result was there for everybody to see and listen to …with a little help from our friends.
Barry the DJ provided the music in between bands, with a set that made a step back into 1960s psychedelia, to then proceed towards 1990s indie to then reach 21st century with great successes like the Coral’s 'In the Morning' - a song which proves very popular during drunken bus conversations, let me tell ya - and the Concretes’ 'Can’t hurry love'.
The selection of bands that we put together was a feast of variety of music genres that went from happy catchy indie-pop psychedelia with Spacerocket, through charismatic electronic pop with Temposhark to vibrant indie rock with Dustin’s Bar Mitzvah…A bit for everybody’s taste! The bands were great, the music superb and the people rocked!
I think that the phrase of the night has got to be
“We have Japanese fans…and they all have black hair”.
Thanks to the singer from Dustin’s Bar Mitzvah for this pearl…I wonder whether he remembers saying this; that night he was suffering from memory loss, as he enjoyed telling the audience.
The result was well beyond our expectations for a first night; people did actually show up and not just friends who sympathised with our mission and dream but complete strangers – fans of the bands, people who wanted to have a good time at the Buffalo Bar, even the friends of the bar staff at the Buffalo – who provided the much sought after exposure.
And we almost had a birth on site…Thanks to baby Lucy Partridge who decided to postpone her birth to after daddy’s band had finished their set.
Watch this space for more Conceited gig and club nights! We will be back soonish…end of August probably! We will keep you posted!!!
Thanks so much to the bands, to all of you who came along and to our great friends who helped us out throughout the night!
Cheers
Lis and Jan
